So that cable is not at fault here... I lost them trying to find a resolution in which everything on the screens was a bit smaller. Which would explain why it's taunting me with a black screen and nothing more... It should detect it now.

Analog is definitely better than staring at a blank screen. Updating monitor code is usually not possible and updating the video BIOS is a bit of a pain. i remember i had to do something in control panal>device manager and i think it was a problem with the driver. If Windows is giving you a blank screen then you can try to boot in VGA mode and then set a new screen mode. LCD monitors do not flicker like CRTs when using slower refresh rates so you won't have eyestrain problems if you do it.
