Dell Dimension C521 Usb Ports Not Working

I downloaded the Linux Mint iso (based on Ubuntu 10.4) and used the Ubuntu 10.4 "Start up disc creator" utility on it. The box is a Dell E521. Just to double check it is actually working. dobbin231 View Public Profile Find More Posts by dobbin231 23-11-2012, 22:58 #7 dobbin231 Forum Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Posts: 443 Quote: Originally Posted by plugs13amp given it reports Source

After you get access toggle the USB legacy support and that should resolve it. WITH NO FUNCTIONING KEYBOARD? I've also tried a wireless USB keyboard but I get the same result. I did replace the motherboard battery and I have also used the clear CMOS jumper but still have the same problem. If you still have problems try a different port. I've come across similar things with certain Optiplex models in the past (mainly the 320). http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/usb-port-failure-dell-dimension-c521.163910/ User #179454 808 posts WhitePearl Whirlpool Enthusiast reference: whrl.pl/RbAF4E posted 2008-Jul-21, 10:54 am AEST ref: whrl.pl/RbAF4E posted 2008-Jul-21, 10:54 am AEST hmm..

My next step would be to get hold of (borrow) a replacement power supply and try that before spending more money on a usb card.

The machine currently runs XP and I wanted to try out Ubuntu, in particular to assess the performance of flash video. The powered USB Hub has a small LED on which shows when it is powered up. Do you think changing the Power Supply would have any effect (I have a spare power supply in the PC with the damaged motherboard)? dobbin231 View Public Profile Or have you any other USB device that lights up when plugged in that you could use to check?

If you've put in a good battery and reset the BIOS data, it should load a default configuration, and so shouldn't report "Invalid Configuration" any more.
